The Tigers brought their season to a close with a 0-0 draw against Play-Off qualifiers Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

There was just one change to the side that started against Preston North End last weekend as Alton Thelwell came in to replace Scott Wiseman at right back. Ryan France came into the squad to take a place on the bench.

For the second City game in a row, the opposition were supported by a knight of the realm as Sir Elton John made one of his rare visits to Vicarage Road.

The game began at a slow pace. In the 13th minute, City were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box when Adrian Mariappa was penalised for climbing on Jon Parkin.

The free kick was headed behind for a corner and from Stuart Green's delivery, Keith Andrews' header was saved by Ben Foster.

Parkin then tried his luck with an ambitious effort from 30 yards which flew high and wide.

Leon Cort [pictured] did well to block a goal-bound shot after Boaz Myhill had fumbled a cross from Al Bangura as the game began to liven up.

On 19 minutes, a long ball from Myhill was headed into the path of Green by Parkin, but the midfielder sent his 25-yard volley sailing over.

Watford had a glorious chance to take the lead in the 23rd minute when Chris Eagles cut in from the right, beat two defenders and sent an effort on target from eight yards that was brilliantly saved by Myhill.

City forced a corner on 26 minutes when Alan Rogers' cross was deflected behind, but the corner from the same player was easily cleared.

Marlon King wasted a decent chance at the other end after Eagles beat Rogers and cut the ball back to the striker who blazed over. Rogers was left needing treatment after his battle with Eagles, but the left back was fine to continue.

Myhill had to be alert on 36 minutes to keep out a Darius Henderson header following a long throw from Lloyd Doyley.

Neat play by Kevin Ellison saw him create space for a shot but although it was on target, it was comfortably held by Foster.

Henderson caused more problems in the air six minutes before the break, this time forcing Myhill to tip his header round the post.

Green forced Foster into a diving save to his right from 20 yards after some neat play involving Parkin and Ellison had set the midfielder up.

Half Time: Tigers 0-0 Watford.

The Tigers made a double change at half time as Andy Dawson [pictured] and Darryl Duffy replaced Rogers and Craig Fagan.

Duffy got involved in the action straight away, dragging a shot wide after being played in by Parkin.

At the other end, Cort did well to block a King effort away for a corner. Jordan Stewart took the kick which was headed away by Damien Delaney. When the ball was returned into the box, the same player conceded a corner, but this time it was effectively cleared.

A long clearance from Myhill looked to have sent Duffy through on goal but just as he was about to shoot, he was denied by some superb defending by Mariappa.

Duffy was denied again on 61 minutes. This time he was sent through by Green but his left-foot shot across goal was saved by Foster. The keeper then re-gathered the ball before Parkin could pounce.

Cort had a good chance a minute later when a free kick from Dawson found the big defender unmarked in the area, but he planted his header wide of goal.

Myhill pulled off a brilliant save with 15 minutes remaining, denying Al Bangura from close range after the Watford man had been played through by King.

Andrews had an opportunity in the 80th minute when he found space on the left side of the box, but he curled a tame shot straight at Foster.

Myhill made another good save two minutes later when King neatly controlled the ball and then hit a volley that was beaten away by the City keeper low to his right.

The Tigers made their final change on 84 minutes as France came on for Ellison.

King had the last effort on goal, dragging his shot wide as the game ended goalless.

Watford will now meet Crystal Palace in the Play-Offs while the Tigers finish their first season in the Championship in 18th position.
