For the first time this season, the Tigers broke into the Play-Off places after easing to a 2-0 win against struggling Scunthorpe United at the KC Stadium.

First half goals from Henrik Pedersen and Michael Turner were enough to earn City a victory as they completed a double over the Iron.

Phil Brown made two enforced changes to his side.

Craig Fagan was handed a second 'debut' for the club having joined on loan from Derby County late on Friday, replacing the suspended Caleb Folan, while Dean Marney came in for the banned Jay-Jay Okocha.

On the bench, Michael Bridges was handed a place but there was no Dean Windass.

A cracking atmosphere greeted the players at kick off and City soon won a free kick 25 yards out when Marney was tripped. Andy Dawson took it and forced Joe Murphy in the Scunthorpe goal to tip the ball wide.

Dawson and Marney worked the corner short before the former delivered a superb cross onto the head of Ian Ashbee, who somehow managed to hit Murphy from close range with almost the whole of the goal to aim at.

City won another corner in the sixth minute when Fagan's pace troubled Jack Hobbs. This time, Marney delivered following a short routine, but Fagan's near-post run ended with a goal kick to Scunthorpe.

The visitors were struggling to cope at the back and two low crosses from the right, one from Marney and the other from Fraizer Campbell, could quite easily have lead to City taking the lead.

Scunthorpe's first effort of note came in the 14th minute when City could only clear a free kick to the edge of the area, but Jim Goodwin's shot curled over.

The Iron should have taken the lead on 21 minutes when Ben May's cross from the right picked out Jack Cork, but he could only head wide under pressure from Turner.

City took the lead in the 27th minute. Sam Ricketts' long throw was flicked on for Fagan. His shot on the turn was repelled by Murphy, but the ball bounced up for Pedersen who nodded home from close range.

The Tigers were controlling large parts of the game and doubled their lead when they won a corner on 37 minutes. Dawson delivered onto the head of Turner, who powered home from six yards.

Half Time: Tigers 2-0 Burnley

City began the second half comfortably, winning a couple of corners before Dawson fired a shot from distance wide.

Scunthorpe threatened briefly when May took City on through the middle, but he fired wildly wide of the target from 20 yards.

City almost added to their lead from another long throw. Ricketts' hurl into the box was flicked on for Pedersen, but he stabbed an effort wide at the far post.

Another chance came shortly after when Campbell headed the ball down for Fagan, but he lifted the ball over the bar.

City were pouring forward and Marney was denied by a spectacular save from Murphy, who pushed the midfielder's shot onto the post.

City's first change of the afternoon came with just six minutes remaining as Simon Walton replaced Pedersen. That saw Fagan move out to the left, leaving Campbell as the loan front man.

The second change came in the final minute as Ryan France came on for Richard Garcia.

Just two minutes of time were added, which passed without incident as the Tigers took a deserved three points.
