The Tigers' superb run of form continued in style this afternoon with a superb 3-0 victory against Watford in front of the KC Stadium's biggest crowd of the season.

Early goals from Michael Turner and Fraizer Campbell were added to in the second half by substitute Caleb Folan as City's promotion charge gathered more pace.

The City side showed just one change to the one that won at Leicester City last weekend with Wayne Brown recovering from injury in time to take the place of Neil Clement who was recalled from his loan spell by West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.

Ian Ashbee passed a late fitness test and captained the side while Dean Windass once again partnered Campbell up front.

Three days before his 39th birthday, the veteran striker became the fourth-oldest player ever to play for the Tigers.

Further good news saw keeper Matt Duke return to the bench following his enforced near three-month absence while Craig Fagan also made the bench.

The Tigers made the best possible start, scoring after just 47 seconds.

After Richard Garcia had been fouled, Dean Marney delivered a perfect free kick onto the head of the unmarked Turner, who headed home past a helpless Richard Lee.

That sent the packed KC Stadium wild as the volume level reached a new high.

City were dominating and doubled their lead in the 12th minute.

Marney's cross from the right was headed back across by Windass. Danny Shittu's headed clearance only found Henrik Pedersen, whose low volley was deflected home by Campbell.

Watford were looking for a way back into the game and won a corner on 15 minutes.

They worked it short, but when Matt Sadler crossed City cleared easily.

Sadler was then booked for bringing down Campbell. From the free kick, Marney found Pedersen but the Dane couldn't direct his header.

Campbell himself was shown a yellow card in the 19th minute for a late challenge on Lee after the keeper had made a mess of dealing with a simple back-pass.

Brown was the next man into the book on 37 minutes following a foul on Tommy Smith. The amount of whistle from referee Uriah Rennie meant the game had turned into a rather scrappy encounter.

Boaz Myhill was forced to make his first real save of the afternoon two minutes later, beating away Jobi McAnuff's long range effort as the rain continued to pour down.

Half Time: Tigers 2-0 Watford

City controlled the early stages of the second half and when Andy Dawson popped up on the right after taking a corner, he cut inside before firing wide.

Watford created a decent opening when McAnuff got on the end of a flick in the box, but Sam Ricketts got in between him and the goal to block the shot.

Myhill had to make a superb save from Steven Kabba as Watford threatened again before City made their first change as Folan replaced Windass.

Campbell then tested Lee with a shot from 20 yards, but the keeper was equal to it.

Brown needed treatment following a collision with Myhill in the City six-yard box but the centre back was okay to continue.

For the third game running, Folan scored after coming off the bench as City went 3-0 up in the 73rd minute.

He was set free by a long ball over the top and after showing great strength to hold off a defender, he slid the ball past Lee and into the net.

Almost immediately, Watford were reduced to ten men when Kabba's wild challenge on Ricketts was punished with a straight red card.

City's second change came with just three minutes to go as Fagan replaced Campbell, who left the field to a standing ovation.

Watford were now looking for a consolation but there was no getting past the City defence as Turner produced two superb blocks in quick succession before Myhill picked up a mysterious yellow card.

Ian Ashbee was replaced by Bryan Hughes in the final minute.

After another heroic display, at the end of a perfect day, the City skipper received a hugely deserved standing ovation.
