After a memorable evening at the KC Stadium, the Tigers will head to Wembley for the first time in their history after beating Watford 4-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate in their Championship Play-Off semi-final.

It had looked like it would be a nervy night for City after they fell behind early on, but goals from Nick Barmby, Caleb Folan, Richard Garcia and Nathan Doyle put the result beyond any doubt.

Phil Brown named an unchanged squad, meaning there were no places for Dean Marney, Henrik Pedersen or Jay-Jay Okocha.

For Watford, Jay DeMerit replaced the injured Danny Shittu, Darius Henderson returned from suspension in place of Lionel Ainsworth and Adrian Mariappa came in for Lloyd Doyley.

Captain John Eustace was also available after his sending-off in Sunday's encounter at Vicarage Road was rescinded.

The players were greeted by a wall of noise at kick off and that got even louder in the second minute when Nathan Ellington's rash challenge on Wayne Brown had the City fans demanding a card.

Referee Mark Clattenburg awarded a free kick, but there was no further punishment for the Watford man.

City were presented with a great chance in the tenth minute when a poor back-header fell for Fraizer Campbell, but his flicked effort on the turn was blocked by goalkeeper Richard Lee.

Two minutes later, Watford went in front. City conceded possession on the edge of their own box and when the ball was squared to Henderson, he produced a cool finish into the bottom corner.

City tried to respond, but a volley from Dean Windass dipped just over the bar.

Watford were looking dangerous and City's back line were struggling to cope. Boaz Myhill was forced to scramble a deflected Jobi McAnuff effort wide, although the assistant had flagged for offside.

A deflected Richard Garcia brought City their first corner in the 23rd minute.

Andy Dawson and Sam Ricketts initially made a hash of the short routine and when the ball eventually found Ian Ashbee at the far post, he couldn't create anything.

As Watford tried to clear, Mariappa was fouled by Nick Barmby, who was booked for the challenge.

City won another corner two minutes later. This time Dawson delivered straight into the box where he found Ashbee, but his header was off target.

Watford were certainly targetting City's right flank, with Sam Ricketts being given a torrid time by the tricky McAnuff.

City had a goal ruled out four minutes before half time. Windass fired home, but the referee had already blown after spotting a push on a Watford defender.

The Tigers levelled two minutes later.

Dawson's long range header into the box was headed straight up in the air by Leigh Bromby.

Lee came, but then hesitated, allowing Richard Garcia to head up and over the keeper.

With the ball heading slowly towards the net, Barmby made sure with a diving header to send the home fans wild.

Half Time: Tigers 1-1 Watford

City started the second half the better of the two sides and had a half-hearted appeal for a penalty turned down when Windass appeared to play the ball onto the hand of Bromby.

Watford brought on Tamas Priskin to boost their attacking options and he almost made an immediate impact in the 59th minute, but Myhill beat his shot away at the near post.

City's first change came on 64 minutes when Caleb Folan came on for Windass, who left the field to a standing ovation.

Folan was involved in the action straight away, taking the ball to the edge of the Watford area with a strong run before losing control as he looked to beat the last defender.

Michael Turner was booked in the 67th minute for a dangerous tackle on Nathan Ellington, but in general City were starting to look more and more comfortable.

And so it was proved on 70 minutes when the Tigers went ahead on the night and 4-1 up on aggregate.

Ricketts went on a run down the right before producing a perfect cross for Folan to head home from close range.

City then made their second change as Barmby was replaced by Craig Fagan and that was soon followed by the introduction of Nathan Doyle for Campbell.

The Tigers almost extended their lead ten minutes from time when first Doyle headed wide from Folan's cross before Fagan saw a fierce shot fly just over seconds later.

Watford weren't quite done and Hughes had to clear off the line from Henderson after he had met a corner.

But Garcia put the icing on the cake two minutes from time with a fine individual effort, beating several defenders before finishing calmly past Lee.

Sadly, the celebrations were marred by a mindless few who decided to invade the pitch, but City's Wembley date was now secure.

It got even better for the Tigers seconds later when the ball broke for Doyle, who fired past Lee via a deflection to claim his first goal for the club and, to complete a remarkable story, on the day that he became a father.

Another pitch invasion followed, prompting the referee to blow the final whistle and allow the celebrations to really start.
