Boateng Excited By The Challenge
George Boateng is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead after completing his £1m move from Middlesbrough.
The 32-year-old midfielder revealed he turned down a number of other offers to join the club and admitted Tigers boss Phil Brown played a big part in his decision to make the move to the KC Stadium.
"This a great challenge for me and I'm stepping out of my comfort zone at Middlesbrough where I've been for the past six years," he said.
"There were other clubs interested in me but once I'd spoken to the manager here I realised that he really wanted to bring me to the club and sometimes it's very important to have somebody who is keen to have you and also enjoys the way you play your football.
"Besides that, the manager also believes that I can fit into and play a role in his team and I thought to myself 'this is exactly the type of challenge that I need'.
"The team has been promoted three times in the last five years but has never competed at Premier League level and I think the challenge as a team and a club is to maintain that top-flight status."
Boateng will bring considerable experience to the Tigers' squad and he's looking forward to putting that to good use.
"I've played at this level for the past 11 years and have gained a lot of experience during that time," he added.
"I know what it takes to win a Premier League game and it's very hard work. You also have to be mentally strong because it's a long season and there are always disappointments along the way.
"Aside from the experience factor, I also have plenty of energy inside of me. I spoke to my old manager Gordon Strachan recently and at the age of 32 he left Manchester United for Leeds United, became the captain and won the Premier League title.
"At that age it kick-started his career in the top league and hopefully coming to Hull City will do the same for me."
