At the time widely regarded as the one of the most outstanding performers in the Third Division, the Tigers brought Andy across to the north bank of the Humber after his contract with rivals Scunthorpe United expired in June 2003.

The elder footballing brother of Michael of Tottenham Hotspur and Kevin formerly of Chesterfield seemed set for a move to the First Division a year earlier when Norwich City expressed an interest. However, he spent the 2002-03 season at Glanford Park on a series of short-term deals.

Like his brothers, Andy started his career at Nottingham Forest. He signed pro forms at the City Ground in October 1995 but made only one senior appearance - against Leyton Orient in the Worthington Cup.

Brian Laws' Forest links paved the way for his move to Scunthorpe on loan in December 1998. Despite reported interest from Preston North End and Aberdeen, Andy completed his permanent move to United in March 1999 for a fee of £70,000.Andy made a total of 225 appearances for the Iron and scored 11 goals.

Although his Tigers bow was delayed by six games after damaging knee liaments in a pre-season friendly at Canvey Island, Andy soon impressed his new audience - especially with stunning long-range goals against Southend United and Kidderminster Harriers.

He went on to be a key member of the promotion winning team with his efforts recognised with selection in the PFA's Division Three Team of the Year.

Andy's second City season also culminated in promotion with, again, a series of assured performances maintaining his place as one of the favourites amongst the KC crowd. Indeed, rather than undermine his confidence, the introduction of Roland Edge meant that Tigers boss Peter Taylor had two top quality left-backs at his disposal.

Soon after reaching his 300th career appearance after City's Championship bow, Andy again rose to the challenge of playing at a higher level and keen competition for the left-back berth - this time from Alan Rogers, a former Forest colleague.

Andy's contract was extended to June 2008 in June 2006.

When the going got tough in 2006-07 as the Tigers fought against relegation from the Championship, Andy responded in fine style.

He won the club's Player of the Year award and the City players' Player of the Year accolade.
